Chinook Winds World Rib Eating Championship

The Chinook Winds Casino held the 2006 Chinook Winds World Rib Eating Championship on July 15 and July 16, 2006, in Lincoln City, OR. The event included both amateur and professional contests with prize money.

The rib-eating contest was a feature of the Chinook Winds’ annual “Smokin’ at the Ocean” food festival.

Joey Chestnut won the rib-eating title in 2005 with a world-record performance of 5.5 pounds in 12 minutes. This year, America's greatest eater consumed 8.4 pounds of rib meat to win the Championship and set a new world record.

Chestnut finished more than three pounds ahead of the revered elder statesman, Rich The Locust, who placed second with 5.05 lbs. In third was Erik The Red of Seattle with 4.1 lbs.

The amateur contest on Saturday was taken by Carl "the Hungarian Freight Train" Ronto of Tigard, Oregon, with 2.2 lbs of rib meat in 6 minutes.
