Tim "Eater X" Janus, with only half of his face covered in his signature war paint, impressed a packed crowd when he tied Cookie Jarvis' World Record of 26 large canolli in 6 minutes on Friday, September 15th at the 79th Annual Feast of San Gennaro in New York's Little Italy. Cookie Jarvis was presented a lifetime achievement award at the event.
Even in the pouring rain nearly 1,000 festival goers and competitive eating fans watched as an impressive field of eaters including Crazy Legs Conti, Justin Mih, and Wild Bill Myers raised their blood sugar levels for their entertainment. Coffee was a popular liquid again this year, and no doubt helped to keep the athletes' muscles warm during the storm.
The 79th Annual Feast of San Gennaro ran through Sunday, September 24, 2005. Presented annually since 1996 by Figli di San Gennaro, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, this year’s Feast will again bring more than 1 million people to the streets of Little Italy in the annual salute to the Patron Saint of Naples. The street festivities include parades, entertainment and food stands.
