The GoldenPalace.net World Series of Competitive eating continued in Albuquerque, NM on September 23, when a new record was set in Green Chile Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.
Joey Chestnut continued his dominance in the grilled sandwich discipline. He ate 34.5 sandwiches, significantly less than his record of 47 ordinary grilled cheese sandwiches. One can only assume that the spicy green chiles slowed his rhythm. But it was plenty to take the title and the top prize of $1500.
Rich LeFevre took 2nd place with 28, and newcomer Marco Marquez came in 3rd with 14.
Andrew "Skinnyboy" Lane and Allen Earl Jones rounded out the top five with a 13.5 sandwich tie.
