The Los Angeles Nisei Week Festival Gyoza Eating Championship

For the third consecutive year, Joey Chestnut, the world's top eater, showed up to The Los Angeles Nisei Week Festival and left as the world gyoza-eating champion. Chestnut downed 181 of the delicious Day-Lee Gyoza Potstickers in the 10 minute contest while cruising to the victory and the $1,000 top prize.

Newcomer Damon Wells placed 2nd with 128 gyoza's winning himself a digital camera. Chillin Peng (123), #31-ranked Kevin Ross (115) and #25-ranked Bryan Beard (113) finished in third through fifth places, respectively. Ryan "Big Red" McKillop reached the 100-gyoza mark before being DQ'ed after a reversal.

The contest also featured the 2009 Nisei Week Queen and her court of five who each ate for 1 minute and 40 seconds for a total of 86 gyoza (new court record!) while raising over $2,000 for charity.
