Rouses World Crawfish Eating Championship

Location: New Orleans, LA
Date: 04-10-2010
Winner: Sonya Thomas

"The Black Widow" Sonya Thomas put on a show for the French Quarter Festival crowd at the Rouses World Crawfish Eating Championship on Saturday, April 10th. Thomas, ranked #5 in the world, ate 6.5 pounds of Rouses Crawfish to take the title, the $1,000 first place prize. Thomas set a new world record in the process surpassing U.S. Male's total of 4.99 lbs from 2009.

In second place taking home $500 was MLE upstart Nick "The Gorgin' Goblin" Bauer who flew in from Houston, TX. Elliott Guidry and Frank Wills, a pair of Louisiana local amateurs who tied for third place with 3 lbs each (winning $250 each), proved that familiarity with the crawfish was key after edging out ranked pros such as Gravy Brown and Kevin Ross. Brown, Ross and Adrian Morgan all consumed 1.5 lbs each.
