World's #1-ranked eater Joey Chestnut beat a five-man team of amateur challengers in a seven minute pizza-eating contest (32 slices to 30) Saturday at the Bite of Oregon. The event kicked off the Pepto-Bismol Summer Festival Food Tour and saw the table lined with pizza boxes, mostly stacked in front of Chestnut.
Chestnut, donned in a pinned striped Pepto-Bismol jersey, got off to a fast start; averaging 10 seconds a slice for the first pizza. On the second pizza though, Chestnut was surprised with a pizza covered in sausage. He took it in stride knowing that Pepto has him covered after the contest.
His challengers, made of of amateur eaters who won the chance to compete against the eating legend by visiting the Pepto Booth at the festival, were more methodical in their eating -- pacing themselves with the hopes that Chestnut would tire. This never happened, however, and in the end, the champ took home the Pepto Belt and the bragging rights over the five-man team on the losing end.
Post-contest, the competitors engaged in a much needed Pepto toast, each taking the recommended dosage at the table.
Next up on the Pepto-Bismol Summer Food Festival Tour, Joey heads to the Austin Ice Cream Festival to take on a new team of challengers. For more information and a timeline of the events, please visit facebook.com/peptobismol
