JOEY "JAWS" CHESTNUT EATS 102 TAMALES IN 12 MINUTES TO SET A NEW TAMALE-EATING WORLD RECORD IN LEWISVILLE, TX!

Some records are broken. This one was smashed. Smashed into a billion, tiny, tamale-scented pieces and scattered unto the four winds. The numbers are staggering: Twelve minutes, one man, 102 tamales.

That man was Joey Chestnut, the #1-ranked eater in the world and some say the most inspiring figure in the world today. The claim is not without merit: Chestnut's world-record-setting feat at Western Days Festival World Tamale Eating Championship at Old Town Lewisville represented a 43.6 percent increase on the previous world record of 71, set by Tim "Eater X" Janus. Joey's business is eating. And business is good.

Before the contest, word from Lewisville suggested that this year's tamales—provided by Dat's Good Barbecue—had all the trademarks of classic, fast, Texan tamales. The field relished the opportunity to eat them during the 12-minute event.

Joey claimed first with a trademark display of capacity and power; Eater X Janus bested his previous PB with an impressive haul of 87 for the third. Adrian "The Rabbit" Morgan, the most handsome man in all of competitive eating, came third with 68; Juan Rodriguez continued to impress with 60.5; Texan "Nasty" Nate Biller represented with pride to eat 50.5 tamales. His efforts were appreciated by his fellow Texans.

No one knows when Chestnut's current golden run will end—he has been unstoppable over the past six months, crushing the field and setting new WRs with ease, if not grace. We are humbled to be living in this hour, this hour of Chestnut.
