National Sweet Corn Eating Championship

"Thy breath be rude," William Shakespeare famously told winter in As You Like It. And rude winter is. Because let's face it: This winter, for anyone not living in South Florida or San Diego, has been one hellacious season of unrelenting suffering. Snow. Wind. Vortexes. Some days we have wept. But this darkness shall pass. And when it does we shall soak in sunny days. And we shall enjoy corn—fresh-shucked and lovingly grilled alongside our proteins of choice. And those days will be the ones we speak of when we are old and know what is good. Winter's breath won't rate a mention.

Summer comes early on the MLE calendar, of course. We are pleased to announce another installment of the the National Sweet Corn Eating Championship—a legend of the MLE circuit and one of its most-demanding. This year’s total prize purse is increased to an all-time high of $5,500! This 12-minute event will mark the second leg of MLE’s annual commitment to the vegetable kingdom, Veggie Weekend, as it follows Stockton, CA’s, Deep Fried Asparagus event held on the Saturday, April 27th.

In last year's event, it was The Notorious BOB Bob Shoudt—World #6—who stood tallest, downing 35 ears of delicious Floridian corn. Crazy Legs Conti came second with 34, while Erik The Red Denmark ate 33 for the bronze. Jacksonville's Jon Bello ate 29 and newcomer Joe Noto ate 17 to round out the money positions.

Who among MLE's finest will triumph this year? Will BOB repeat his dominant performance? Will another eater take his corn-encrusted crown? Will it be you? At the table or in the crowd, don’t you ever miss the 2014 National Sweet Corn Eating Championship! See you there.

This contest will place at 3pm at the Sweet Corn Fiesta, held in the Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Boulevard West Palm Beach, Florida 33411

About the Sweet Corn Fiesta The annual Sweet Corn Fiesta, presented by the Florida Sweet Corn Exchange, is buttered with a family festival of children’s games, music, a national eating competition and, oh yes, mouth-watering and locally grown sweet corn.
