Foxwoods World Turkey-Eating Championship

Location: Mashantucket, CT
Date: 11-21-2015
Winner: Miki Sudo, with 8.8lb of turkey in 10 min

SUDO EDGES CHESTNUT FOR TURKEY GLORY!

Let is be known that at the second annual Foxwoods World Turkey-Eating Championship Ms Miki Sudo—the #3-ranked eater in the world—claimed top prize by eating 8.8lb of turkey off the bone in just 10 minutes. In doing so, Sudo defeated the Great One, the man they call Chestnut, who finished with 8.4lb in 10 minutes for second place. The result was a vindication of Sudo's improved consistency and focus throughout 2015. It was her most significant career win outside the hot dog and bun discipline.

Those who called the result an upset on social media simply have not been paying attention to Sudo vs Chestnut of late. At the World Gumbo-Eating Championship earlier in the month, Chestnut squeaked past Sudo by but 8oz of gumbo. At countless other events, it has been Chestnut one, Sudo two. Not today.

The contestants at the Foxwoods World Turkey-Eating Championship face a whole turkey and must rip and claw and de-bone and thrash and tear their way to victory. It is as much a test of protein strategy as it is eating—which bits will reward the eater most come weighing time? Which bits are faster? Which might slow one down? Sudo knows turkeys like she knows the back of her hand. She was not to be outdone today.

Major props to Geoffrey Esper for a powerful third-place finish. One feels that Mr Esper is just learning how to get the best performances out of his considerable talent. The eaters are on notice as the 2016 season looms. Ms Michelle Lesco used her speed for fourth, while Gideon Oji again impressed for fifth. The ranks of MLE are strong and thriving.
