Date: 05-15-2016
Winner: Joey Chestnut, with a WR 30 Niko Niko's Gyros in 10 mins!

JOEY CHESTNUT SETS NEW GYRO-EATING RECORD IN HOUSTON!

The Great One—Joey "Jaws" Chestnut—ate 30 8oz Niko Niko's gyros in 10 minutes on Sunday May 15th, 2016, at the Niko Niko's World Gyro Eating Championship. In doing so he set a new World Record in the discipline, but more importantly, he reminded himself how it feels to beat Matthew "The Megaton" Stonie, the #1-ranked eater in the world. Stonie would finish with 28.5, mark that would have improved upon his own existing record if it were not for Chestnut.

In post-contest comments on the social media platform Twitter, Chestnut remarked: "Back in the saddle again. A great contest in Houston. Thank you @MattStonie you really push me to work." Confident, gracious, polite—the Chestnut of 2016 does not beat his chest and crow a perhaps he once would have. No. He has learned valuable lessons the only way any of us learn—the hard way. The last time he beat Stonie was November 22, 2014, in the whole turkey discipline at Foxwoods in Connecticut. A long time. Too long for Chestnut. He needed this. He got this. And a new World Record to boot.

The King has returned to lay claim to the throne. Stonie vows never to relinquish it. There will be more battles to come. There will never be peace.

RESULTS! 1 Joey Chestnut, 30 Niko Niko's Gyros in 10 min, a new World Record 2 Matt Stonie, 28.5 3 TIE Miki Sudo and Geoffrey Esper, 18 5 Adrian Morgan, 16.5 6 Michelle Lesco, 13.5

This contest* took at 2pm Central on Sunday, May 15th, 2016, at the Houston Greek Fest, 1100 Eldridge Parkway, Houston, TX 77077.
