CHESTNUT SETS NEW WORLD POUTINE EATING RECORD!
Let it be known that on Saturday, October 1st, 2016, Joey Chestnut set a new World Record in the Poutine discipline when he ate 25.5lb of Smoke's Poutinerie poutine in 10 minutes. In doing so, he bested his previous record of 24 lbs in the same time frame. He is Chestnut. He is the Great One. There is little more to say other than, perhaps, "Seriously, 25.5 pounds of poutine, dude?" Seriously, dude. Dude.
Chestnut is the king of capacity. He was fast strong and hungry. He would remark in post-contest media commitments that the poutine was fast—the gravy softening the fries for optimal consumption. He was not to be denied this year. Not with this poutine. The 7th Annual Smoke’s Poutinerie World Poutine Eating Championship is his.
Toronto is a pleasing, clean city whose well-educated citizens have learned to appreciate the art and effort required to eat Smoke's Poutinerie poutine in MLE-sanctioned quantities. They are a credit to their city, their province and their nation. They cheered in full voice for the 2014 and 2015 Champion Matt Stonie; Stonie would finish third. Carmen Cincotti—the rookie sensation of rookie sensations—came second with 25 pounds of poutine in 10 minutes. Careful deliberation by event officials confirmed what Cincotti feared—that he was pipped by but half a pound from the greatest upset of his burgeoning career. That upset will come, of course, but it was not to be today.
This was Chestnut's day. This was the 7th Annual Smoke’s Poutinerie World Poutine Eating Championship. It was a feast for the stomach and the soul. All who competed or watched were enriched by the experience.
