The Dell’Osso Family Farm Baconfest World Bacon Eating Championship

Location: Lathrop, CA
Date: 09-10-2017
Winner: Joey Chestnut, with 7.75lb bacon in 8 mins

CHESTNUT CLAIMS FIRST BACON TITLE!

Joey Chestnut, the #1-ranked eater in the world, claimed the 2017 Dell’Osso Family Farm Baconfest World Bacon Eating Championship with a controlled, disciplined effort. It was not flashy, it was not boastful, and it was not dominant. It was simply enough to win. And under the baking Lathrop, CA, sun, on this Sunday, that was enough. Chestnut ate 7.75lb of bacon in eight minutes for the win.

Which is not to diminish the achievement. After the event, Chestnut confided to the assembled media throng: “I’ve never eaten bacon quickly before, now that I think of it.” The texture posed a question that Chestnut answered. One imagines that at future Dell’Osso Family Farm Baconfest World Bacon Eating Championships, Chestnut will improve upon this effort.

Gideon Oji continued his excellent 2017 with a clear second-place finish. Side note: We live in a world in which the kale-eating champion of the world can eat 6.75lb of bacon in eight minutes; that should give you some comfort in these trying times. Michelle Lesco could not match her 8lb effort from 2016; she would settle for 5lb and third. Others ate less.
