Sonya Takes Flight

10-29-2005

In a personal rebuke to the avian flu, Sonya Thomas shattered the Buffalo Wing Record at today's Verizon VoiceWing Battle at Union Jack's in Bethesda, MD.

Thomas downed 5.75 lbs of wing meat in the ten-minute event. She was followed by Eater X who put down an even 4lbs. In third place was the wily veteran Krazy Kevin Lipsitz (3.85lbs) of Staten Island, NY.

Other well-known attendees, Brian Subich, Brian Seiken, Don Lerman, Allen Goldstein, Crazy Legs Conti and Chip Simpson all performed well.

Pat Philbin, also known as Pat from Moonachie, intended to compete, but his van reportedly broke down over the Potomac. (Thankfully, his satellite radio remains intact.)

The Verizon VoiceWing Battle chicken wing eating circuit features three qualifiers leading up to a final championship and offers a total $14,000 in prize money throughout the circuit. The top five finishers in each qualifier will be offered a seat at the championship event which takes place November 12 in Boston.
