Chestnut sets new rib-eating world record at Chinook Winds Casino!

07-12-2009

Another Smokin' at the Ocean BBQ & Brewfest is in the books at Chinook Winds Casino Resort and with it Joey Chestnut adds to his bib sheet with a new world record. The Sunday rain didn't put a damper on the festivities as a capacity crowd filled the tented pavilion to watch Chestnut down 8.8 lbs of rib meat in 12 minutes. The mark broke his own record of 8.4 lbs set at Chinook Winds in 2006. With the win, the world's top eater captured his fifth consecutive World Rib Eating Championship.

Rich LeFevre didn't participate this year breaking a three-year streak finishing in 2nd place to Chestnut. His absence left the door open for Erik "The Red" Denmark who ate a personal best 6.7 lbs of ribs on his way to a second place finish.

In third place was "The Erbivore" Jason Erb whose finish in the money was extra sweet considering he had finished in fourth place (and out of the money) the last three years. Erb ate 4.2 lbs, also a personal best.
