Carlene LeFevre Owns Phoenix

06-07-2004

In a field of 17 men and one woman there was no contest. Henderson Nevada resident Carlene LeFevre won going away at the sixth annual Arizona Mills Mall Nathan's Famous qualifier, downing 16 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes.

The closest competition in Tempe was Curly Young, who consumed 10 hot dogs and buns to come in second. Local eater Jim Rose placed third with nine hot dogs and buns.

The win secures a spot at the table in Coney Island for Carlene, where she will compete with her husband, Rich. The dining duo have rewritten the rules of competitive eating during the past year, placing in major matches around the nation.
