Great news! Major League Eating is proud to announce our return to Ottumwa, IA, for the second installment of the World Championship Canteen Sandwich Eating Contest. Major League Eaters are warmly encouraged to sign up for the chance to compete in this delicious, history-making occasion.
The Canteen sandwich can only be enjoyed at Canteen Lunch in the Alley, which has served its signature loose-meat sandwich since 1927—in 2017, the Canteen Lunch in the Alley won the USA Today’s Readers’ Choice as the #1 place to get a loose meat sandwich across Iowa. At last year’s inaugural Championship, Gideon Oji added to his World Record haul by eating 18.5 Canteen Sandwiches in 10 minutes to set the benchmark in the disciple. Oji’s record will be on the line this coming June.
